Disease and deadly emotions

Now THERE’S a title that’ll get your attention, eh? smile_omg

Yesterday I made a business trip to Hot Springs. On the way down and back, I listened to a fascinating audio book. This one.

Amazon.com: Deadly Emotions: Understand the Mind-Body-Spirit Connection That Can Heal or Destroy You: Don Colbert: Books

I still have about 10 or 15 minutes left to listen to, but I think get the gist of it. Emotions can make us very, very ill. Physically. It’s all cellular science — and I ain’t talkin’ bout the rural wireless network from Y City to Hot Springs.

It’s in our own best interests to flee toxic relationships, forgive wrongs, and to feed our hearts, minds, and spirits.

It all fits together.

We make choices every day. What to read. How to act. What to think, say, and believe.

Besides all the stuff you’d expect about being healthier, relieving stress, preventing disease and such, here’s something I want to think long and hard about — the writer says he frequently asks patients what they’d do — and what they’d STOP doing — if they discovered they only have six months to live.

I’m pretty sure it’d be difficult to just drop EVERYTHING in life you don’t want to do.

The financial realities of planning for a long life pretty much dictate most of the “biggie” choices. A guy can’t just quit a job he hates and leave his family in a financial lurch.

But that “six months to live” thing…it does tend to help us focus on building legacies and leaving behind trails of laughter, hope, and love. Doesn’t it?

All the other stuff is, well, it’s just noise. Not worth upset stomachs, painful chronic conditions, or sleepless nights.

5For(K) those who live according to the flesh set their minds on(L) the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on(M) the things of the Spirit. 6For to set(N) the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7For the mind that is set on the flesh is(O) hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law;(P) indeed, it cannot. 8Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact(Q) the Spirit of God dwells in you.(R) Anyone who does not have(S) the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11If the Spirit of(T) him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies(U) through his Spirit who dwells in you.

Let’s see, Father. You’ve given me a choice. Being eaten alive by anger, bitterness, and resentment because of the selfish actions of OTHERS. Orrrrr, selfless sacrifice, forgiveness, joy, mercy, and grace. The love of Jesus Christ, the Heavenly Father, and the Holy Spirit.

A no-brainer, yes?
