Part-Timer Mark Martin Leads Cup Standings

Batesville, Arkansas’ Mark Martin started the season with a plan to climb out of the 01 Army car before the spring race at Bristol.

With 2 weeks before the next Cup race in Phoenix, Mark may already be reconsidering his status as a part-time driver for Ginn Racing.

Mark finished 5th at Fontana tonight — and is among 2 drivers to post top 5 finishes in each of the two Nextel Cup races completed in the young 2007 season.

Martin leads former Roush teammate and protege Jeff Burton by 5 points. Burton and Martin are wheeling Chevies — Burton for Richard Childress — while Kenseth took the checkered flag in the Busch and Cup events in a Roush Ford.

Come on, Mark — make the trip to Bristol. Don’t start points racing, either. Just drive the car, man. For the love of racing. Kevin Costner was the grand marshal today. Watch, “For the Love of the Game” in the next few days, buddy. Just drive.
