Today Encore Western is running wall to wall episodes of the old Bat Masterson series (1961, I believe).
I’m watching as I take care of Sunday chores. Fort Smith and Judge Parker are mentioned nearly every episode. No wonder kids around these parts loved watching the series.
The good news is, if you’re at church or otherwise preoccupied, this series will be a regular weekday afternoon staple on Encore Western. My DVR will be busy. đŸ˜‰
Adding Bat Masterson to Encore Westerns is great. What I don’t understand is why they do not add others such as Wagon Train, Rawhide, Have Gun Will Travel, Wanted Dead or Alive and other great westerns to their lineup. Watching the same movies over and over again gets old. You are the Western Channel so why not have more old TV series? Do you ever poll your subscribers tof ind out what “they” want to see?
Yeah, they added the Rifleman when they added Bat Masterson.
It’s interesting that the network is shifting its programming a bit by adding TV programs. I suspect they ran out of old movies and now they’re working on acquiring rights to some of the old series’.
At first I was impressed with the little vignettes between episodes — a good-lookin’ cowboy dude walking a Western era street, talking about legend versus real history. But they ain’t got but 2 or 3 in the rotation. I keep thinking they’ll come up with a dozen or two.
What a great way to celebrate history AND pop culture — sorta what TV Land has been doing for a long time except the focus is more on substantive American history.
We love Gene Barry as Bat Masterson, and watch every one that is shown on The Western Channel. We also love Roy Rogers and Gene Autry.
WAY TO MUCH GENE AUTRY NOT ENOUGH ROY ROGERS, AUTRY IS ON TWO OR THREE TIMES A DAY THATS TO MUCH ITS GETING VERY VERY OLD.AFTER ALL ROY WAS KING OF THE COWBOYS BUT A PERSON WOULD NEVER KNOW IT WHEN AURTY IS ON ALL THE TIME.WHY DONT YOU SHOW ROYS 1/2 HOUR SHOWS ONCE IN A WHILE……DON
How about the old Colt 45 series? That was also a great one. Jim
Sorry, Jim, but the Colt 45 series was before my time. I’ve never even seen reruns.
